Our Pre-schooler classes are suitable for children to start the term after they are 3. The groups are kept smaller than the younger stages, usually no more than 10 or 12 children.

Most children are happy to come into classes without their parent or carer, who generally wait in an adjacent room, depending on the venue. This is entirely child-led and some will need their adult in the room while they settle in. If your child is completely new to Musical Bumps (or the teacher or venue), we suggest that for the first week at least their adult does come into the room.

A typical class develops specific musical skills and concepts including opportunities for solo singing and playing percussion - all through fun and games. Some basic music notation is also introduced through these games. Classes lay a solid foundation for future instrumental lessons, and help to promote school readiness - the children have no idea they are doing anything but fun and play!

There are several reasons our 3+ classes don’t generally include adults. We find the majority of children are far more confident interacting directly with the teacher without their adult. They stay in a small circle with the teacher without any distractions in the room! We are able to use much more repetition – essential for the children’s learning – without adults getting bored, we might repeat an activity many times within a class while the children are engaged.

Sometimes, a family chooses to stay in the Family Music class for longer which is generally fine. It can only be a problem if the class is full and others are waiting to move up into that stage.
